Step 2 of 27
As the book moves forward I have several purposes in this second chapter.
1. To show the abandonment of Gaberdeen by her father.
2. To show the love that Aunt Carol and Uncle Robert showered on her.
3. Her accelerated growth.
4. I introduce Judge Jedediah Bromel, affectionately known as "The Hanging Judge"
This second chapter was endanger of slowing in my opinion, so to spice it up (at the suggestion of my editor...yes I give Joel Hinrichs credit for this one...he did what a good editor does) I moved up showing the first sign of the evil that was growing in Gaberdeen when she was only two years of age.
I also needed to establish a pattern of mental and physical abuse by returning Gaberdeen to her father and showing her first experience with interacting with other kids.
The chapter ends on a note that makes the reader want to turn to see what happens next.
