Frankenstina's First Rejection

I thought I would add this rejection letter to let all aspiring authors know that regardless of how many friends, family, editors, beta readers, and screen writers have told you that your work was great, there are other professionals who would not agree.

And as you'll see in this rejection letter, the agent didn't say whether it was a bad read or not because she didn't get that far. So she can only go by the query letter.

The query letter is akin to having 5 of your teeth pulled at once. There is no perfect science to it. Some people can write and awesome book but lack in creating a query that will make the agent or publisher want to look inside; as with this agent.

I, of course, am so grateful for her reply because now I can stop watching my inbox and get back to doing what I love, and you guys appreciate and that is...write.

Hi Jerrimiah,

Thanks so much for thinking of BookEnds and giving me the chance to review your work! Unfortunately, after reading your letter, I just didn't feel strongly enough to request pages. I'm of the belief that authors deserve an agent who will be passionate about the projects they represent, and I didn't connect as much as I'd hoped.

Please know that every agent feels differently, and this is merely my personal preference. I encourage you to keep querying as what doesn't fit for one agent is perfect for another. I wish you all the best in finding the perfect agent and good luck in your future writing endeavors.

All the best,

That is a very nice rejection letter. If you get one, don't stop submitting your manuscript to other agents. Some agents have so many submissions that they are looking to get the query letters that jumps off the page and shake them silly and says: "HEY ...LOOK AT ME...I'M THE NEXT NEXT NAME IN HORROR"

Write on!
